From the Oil Cabinet: Nature’s Rx and Animal Safety
Hello Amazing Horse & Pet Family,
Welcome back to From the Oil Cabinet.
I got home Sunday from the doTERRA convention, and what a few days it was. The information shared was really something, and it was wonderful to finally meet Dr. Roark again, and her sister Carol in person, along with so many colleagues and fellow animal aromatherapists.
Every year at the convention, doTERRA releases a traditional convention kit. This year, they went a step further and also introduced a brand-new kit called Nature’s Rx, and honestly, it was the one that really stood out to me.
What It is
Nature’s Rx is a new everyday essential oil kit built around common daily needs like calm, rest, digestion, breathing, skin cleansing, muscle comfort, and general wellness. It includes 12 essential oils plus Fractionated Coconut Oil.
The kit is designed for people, but several of these oils come up regularly in animal aromatherapy when used thoughtfully and safely. That said, not every oil, blend, or method of use is right for every animal. With horses and pets, I always consider the individual animal, the species, the oil, the dilution, and the method of use before making any recommendation.
The 12 essential oils in doTERRA’s Nature’s Rx kit are:
Copaiba
Frankincense
Lavender
Lemon
Peppermint
Tea Tree
doTERRA Balance® Grounding Blend
doTERRA Breathe® Respiratory Blend
Deep Blue® Soothing Blend
DigestZen® Digestive Blend
doTERRA On Guard® Protective Blend
doTERRA Serenity® Restful Blend
Fractionated Coconut Oil, or FCO, comes right in the box. Since FCO is a carrier oil, it offers a built-in reminder of one of the most important safety steps in aromatherapy: dilution.
Nature’s Rx covers seven different wellness areas in one kit: calm, rest, digestion, breathing, skin, muscle comfort, and general wellness. That is a lot of everyday support packed into 12 oils.
Several oils in this kit are ones I commonly discuss for horses when used thoughtfully, properly diluted, and with the animal’s response in mind. Some oils and blends call for extra caution, especially around dogs, cats, young animals, senior animals, or animals with health concerns.
I’ll go deeper on individual oils from this kit in upcoming newsletters. For now, here are the simple safety principles I always come back to:
Start with inhalation first.
Use proper dilution for topical use.
Avoid eyes, nose, ears, and sensitive areas.
Let the animal’s response guide you.
Use extra caution with cats.
When in doubt, ask before using.
One more thing worth sharing.
At convention, doTERRA hosted a veterinarian panel that walked through their Essential Oils and Pets e-book, and I have permission to share the recording. They shared practical guidance on safe dilution, application methods, diffuser placement, oils to avoid with dogs and cats, senior pet support, digestion, anxiety, and more. For those of you who use essential oils around your pets, this one is worth watching
